While spending two years as an extranjero (foreigner) in Valencia, Spain, I decided to take a post grad level design course at the Escuela Superiore de Arte y Tecnologia. The students were all my children's ages give or take a decade. Of course, all classes were in Spanish. The experience was fantastic, fun and sometimes frustrating. I loved it. One of the assignments was to design an ABCedario (an alphabet designed with a theme and images). When I taught Children's Book Writing and Illustration at City College San Francisco, I always told my students, "The more personal, the more universal. Don't be afraid to tell the truth about yourself." I took my own advice with "My Alphabet of Menopause." The images were done in India ink on paper, then completed in Photoshop (another thing I learned in Spanish).
